  I am the only mystic I know attending a fundamentalist Christian Church. That church is Colossae. Why? Because they are seriously and radically living the Gospel of Love. And Love is what Jesus was all about.

  Early last fall my 14-year old grandson who had stayed overnight at my place, refused my German pancakes and sausage because he wanted to go to church. I couldn't talk him out of it. So I took him. Once there, I decided to sit in on the sermon to see what these people were filling my grandson's head with. I don't remember the sermon. What I remember is hearing that Colossae had recently set up a make-shift clinic staffed by volunteer doctors and dentist and provided free health care for 600 people who could not afford to pay for it.

  Later I learned that not only does my grandson attend this church, but he rides his bicycle to the bus line, takes the bus to church and then reverses it all to get back home. And he does this every Sunday - all his idea - no adult talked him into it or even suggested it.

  About a month ago I learned that my grandson's family was in crisis. My son and his wife were living in extreme poverty, they had no refrigeration, they had not been able to pay for garbage service for many months and their house had fallen into serious disrepair. Their needs were way beyond what I could handle by myself. It occurred to me that Colossae might be willing to help, so I asked. They said "Absolutely." So now my son's house is scheduled for a major overhaul.

  No, it isn't likely that Colossae will change my theology or I theirs, but I admire and support what they are doing in the community. This is a church who put's their life where their mouth is and they do it with passion.

  Solid. Biblical teaching. Not a lot of fluff. Genuine, gracious people. Great community.
